Through the leadership of their teachers, the 2nd grade students at Liberty Elementary school went out of their way this year to help the pantry during their lesson on economics. This year, the students designed, manufactured, packaged and sold “back pack bling” and contributed the proceeds of their endeavors to the pantry. The “bling” are key chain-like clips that can be attached to back packs and have a variety of sayings on them. Our favorite is one designed with a heart that says “Liberty Supports DSFP”.The kids created the designs, manufactured the bling and then sold them for $1 to students, parents, and teachers.
Due to the generosity of the Dulles South community, the pantry will be offering a supplement for school aged children and their families this summer. The supplement will be available to families with children on June 20th, July 18th, and August 8th from 9am-10:30am. The supplement will include breakfast and lunch items which are normally provided to children through the school system during the school year. We don’t want to see any child go hungry over the summer and we greatly appreciate the generosity of our community through monetary and food donations to make this program possible. If you would like to help support this program, we are in need of canned fruit, boxed cereal, and other non-perishable breakfast and lunch items.Continue reading
