Over the past year, the Dulles South Food Pantry has been the lucky recipient of the tremendous work done by numerous boy scouts and girl scouts in the Dulles South Area. In 2014, between efforts made by individual scouts, individual troops, the Boy Scouts Scouting for Food Program and the Girl Scouts Sing for Their Supper Program, over 7800 pounds was brought to the pantry. That’s almost enough food to feed all of our regular guests for an entire month!
The impact on the scouts is great as well. For Jake T., his Eagle Scout project brought in over 1300 pounds of food to the pantry. The project taught him about teamwork, caring and helped him to earn his award. As one girl scout leader commented, in true Girl Scout spirit, the work they have done has truly made our world a better place. In less than a year’s worth of time these scouts have pounded the street, knocked on doors, faced the cold, learned how to shop and get the most for their money, hauled food and organized and sorted it. We are so proud of the work these girls are doing!
We can’t thank our local scouts enough and we look forward to continued support for all levels and branches of scouting in the future! Thanks must also go to the Dulles South Community for supporting the scouts in their endeavors! You are truly making a difference!
